Analyst says rising divorce quotes in Kurdistan ‘alarming’

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region’s Court of Cassation currently launched divorce charge records for 2018, with the number of separations hovering within the Kurdish provinces.

The province of Erbil recorded 2,985 instances of divorce in 2017, but the quantity rose to a few,598 in 2018, marking a 20 percent boom.

The divorce charge spiked drastically in Sulaimani, the most critical province within the self-sufficient Kurdistan Region in phrases of the populace. With best 1,360 instances in 2017, it stands in stark assessment to the four, half divorces registered in 2018, a two hundred percent increase.

The province of Duhok, a more conservative region of the Kurdistan Region, witnessed a small bump in divorces, from 1,384 to 1,509 in 2018.

The Court of Cassation also facts the forms of marriages registered. In Erbil, there had been 15, mixed marriages in 2018, with 36 of them being the acquiring of a second wife.

In Sulaimani, thirteen,836 marriages have been recorded, 48 of which were also guys wedding a second girl. Some 10,902 weddings have been registered in Duhok, with 89 of them being plural marriages.

“The price of divorces in the Kurdistan Region is alarming,” Latif Hassan, a social analyst, told Kurdistan 24 on Monday, mentioning the root causes are various and many.

Omar Ahmed Mohammed, the spokesperson of the Sulaimani Court of Cassation, informed Kurdistan 24 that the primary motives humans are getting divorced are the economic scenario of the couples, their social media activity, whether they have been pressured into a wedding or a divorce, imposed by households, and the screening of famous TV suggests and dramas that normalize divorce and impact humans’ social perspectives.

The Kurdistan Region has a populace of just about six million humans, with 1. Four million refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) dwelling inside the autonomous region.
